Dear Tara’s House Supporters and Friends,  

High gas prices.  Canceled summer vacations.  Scores of homes in foreclosure.  Rising food costs.  Area families facing difficult times are making tough choices not only about whether they can keep their homes, but also where they will enjoy the summer sunshine and reconnect as a family.  At the same time, many are abandoning their pets by turning to rescues or surrendering them to shelters across the country in record numbers.  Many simply no longer have the means to care for their dogs, cats, bunnies and other animals they way they deserve.

Tara’s House is swamped with email pleads every day from shelters, rescues and concerned pet owners to accept unwanted pets.  Our collective heart breaks every time we need to turn down an offer because we too are feeling the affects of the sluggish economy.  Our veterinarian and transport costs are sky rocketing.  Dog food prices have increased while the amount in the bags has decreased.  Donations have stopped all together and adoptions are at all time lows.  As a result, we cannot meet the demand for our rescue services and we are certain many pets are not finding new homes without our help. <more>
